Indian   Classical   Music   Society   of Greater Atlanta

About Us:

Indian Classical Music Society (ICMS) of Greater Atlanta is a non-profit organization (Tax Exempt Id No. 58-204 1335 ) dedicated to appreciation and promotion of Indian Classical Music (Hindustani style). Our mission is to offer lovers of classical music a unique opportunity to enjoy and closely participate in the promotion of classical music activities in greater Atlanta area and to promote Indian classical music among the youth.

A Brief History:

ICMS holds a tradition of excellence and has been in existence since 1992 in Atlanta. The success of ICMS heavily weighs on our uncompromising standards of quality. Selection of concerts year round is done by our executive committee through a rigorous process. Members participate in surveys and their preferences are considered. Quality of an artist, his/her current standing, the accompaniment on Tabla and Harmonium etc., as well as general reports from recent concerts are taken into account. A careful screening process every year has resulted in bringing artists who have all been liked and appreciated extremely well by our Atlanta audience. We tend to keep a nice balance between instrumental and vocal concerts. We also attempt to have a mix of senior, and junior artists each year. Our discerning audience in turn, has gained a reputation in India – several artists are vying to perform here. We not only try to get the best artists but also make sure we have the right ambience and mood making a highly successful concert. In short, ICMS strives to give you the best concert experience away from our home country. History speaks for itself about ICMS’s success. In the past ICMS has brought stalwarts in instrumental music like Hariprasad Chaurasia (flute), Shivkumar Sharma (santoor), Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (mohan veena), and Shahid Parvez (sitar). We have had younger accomplished artists like Kala Ramnath (violin), Satish Vyas (santoor), and Debashish Banerjee (classical guitar). In the past, we brought leading senior vocalists such as Rajan-Sajan Misra, Veena Sahasrabudhe, Arti Anklikar and Prabha Atre; on the other hand, we have also hosted younger upcoming vocalist stars like Sanjeev Abhyankar and Ashwini Bhide.

Year 2001:

This year we already have held a very successful concert featuring Tejendra Majumdar (sarod) accompanied by Subhankar Banerjee (tabla) at Georgia Tech Student Center on April 13th. We co-hosted the Hariprasad Chaurasia concert with CRY on July 7th and have planned for the remaining 2 concerts of the year. First being Uday Bhavalkar (a Dhrupad/Dhamar exponent) on September 23rd and Purbayan Chatterjee (sitar) with Abhijit Bannerjee (tabla) on October 14th. The membership fee (for one calendar year) for ICMS is $65. A member gets to attend four concerts during a calendar year with front row seating for this fee. In addition, ICMS normally co-sponsors one or two concerts by major artists where members get highly subsidized tickets. Members are allowed to substitute someone else in case they cannot attend a concert by calling ahead. ICMS is committed to excellence in Indian Classical Music and solicits your full participation for a wonderful musical experience! Please join in big numbers, tell your friends, and allow us to bring top musicians from India to perform here in Atlanta!
